The Story Behind the Name
Despite its name, Argentina Tower has no connection to the country Argentina. The name actually comes from Argentoratum, the Latin name for Strasbourg, hometown of Johannes Burckardt, a papal official who built a residence and tower in the area during the 15th century.
A Unique Cat Sanctuary
Adding a modern twist to this historic site, Torre Argentina is also famous for its cat sanctuary. Hundreds of rescued stray cats roam freely among the ruins, cared for by volunteers.
